Newry High School Alpe d'heuz Ski Trip 2021

Newry High School Ski Trip Alpe d’heuz - France February 2021

Designed to give pupils an opportunity to experience life in a different culture, climate and environment. From their experiences, their self esteem and confidence, as individuals, will improve as they work with others in developing existing skills and learning new ones.

Alpe d'Huez has been nicknamed 'L'Ile au Soleil' - the Island in the sun – for a very good reason. Boasting the fifth largest ski area in France, there is a good variety of skiing for all abilities. There is a great beginner ski area just above the resort and there are plenty of easy intermediate runs to graduate onto.

For intermediate skiers there is a wide array of blue and red runs. For those skiers who are looking for a challenge there is a variety of black runs, including the Sarrenne, the longest black run in Europe.

Not just great for skiing, the resort offers a wealth of amenities including a superb sports centre and the use of a large outdoor pool and skating rink.

We will be staying at the Skibound Club hotel which is designed and operated to cater solely for school groups and it is not available to the general public to stay in. The hotel is located in the heart of Alpe d'Huez village, within walking distance of all facilities of the resort. There is a ski lift very close to the hotel to effortlessly bring you from the hotel to the main ski area and ski school meeting point, rather than carrying all your skiing equipment the whole way.

Mr Millar

After another very successful Ski Trip in 2019 to the French Ski Resort of Les Menuires we have been able to make a provisional booking for next year's Ski Trip to the French resort of Alpe D'Huez. The resort is located high in the French Alps and is a resort which the school last visited in 2015. The resort provides fantastic skiing opportunities for both those who have never skied before as well as challenging skiing for those who have. We will be departing Saturday 27th February 2021 and returning Saturday 6th March 2021.

In our planning for the trip we have negotiated an excellent price despite the uncertainty of Sterling compared to the Euro since Brexit referendum.

From the past trips parents had requested a bus was hired to bring the pupils to and from the local airport so the trip will officially start from the school grounds. This year the cost of this bus has been included at the start instead of an additional cost closer to departure.

Throughout the trip pupils will have the opportunity to learn from professional ski instructors. They will be taught in an internationally recognised training course while enjoying breath-taking views of the mountains all around them.

The ESF currently contracted to our tour company is the largest Ski School in the France Alps. Included in the price of the trip are 4 hours of tuition daily. This is split each day into a morning session and then after lunch an afternoon session. The Ski School Instructors are very familiar with working with school trips and speak excellent English.

While the trip is based around the skiing, there will be a full program of evening entertainment which will be finalised on arrival in the resort. In Alpe d'heuz such activities will include evenings in the indoor sports complex, bum boarding, film evenings, crepe evenings etc.

What is included in the cost :-

  • Return coach transfer from the school to the local airport and back to school at the end of the trip.
  • Return flights - Belfast / Geneva
  • Regional flight supplement and UK Departure Airport Tax
  • Transfers between the foreign airport and the resort.
  • 7 nights accommodation – Full Board
                                                   Breakfast,
                                                   Lunch,
                                                   Evening Dinner
  • 6 Days ski hire
  • 4 Hours of ski lessons per day
  • 6 Day lift pass
  • U.K. and foreign airport taxes
  • Full Medical and Travel Insurance cover including ski breakage

In the past this trip has given pupils unforgettable memories of an amazing trip of a lifetime, and we plan to continue this in Ski Trip 2021. Hope to see you there.
