At Newry High School our ICT department equips all pupils with the skills to enable them to make full use of ICT across all subjects, university and in their future careers. We cultivate their interest and enjoyment of all aspects of ICT through the set curriculum making learning fun and challenging for all students with all abilities. By the end of their journey through Newry High, we will provide the student with the opportunity to gain an ICT related qualification.
ICT has become an integral part of the curriculum at Newry High School. In key Stage 3 ICT skills are taught as a discrete subject by specialist teachers. Pupils can then apply these skills across other areas of the curriculum. Currently the KS3 Curriculum includes:
GCSE ICT is a practical, skills-based qualifciation that builds on the key stage 3 curriculum and provides a foundation for students intending to study ICT at a higher level.
The course consists of 3 Units – Units 1 & 2 are assessed entirely on Controlled Assessment tasks and Unit 3 is assessed with an end of Unit Exam. Both Controlled assessment modules contribute 30% each to the final mark with unit 3 contributing 40% of the final mark.

CCEA’s GCE Applied ICT qualification gives students hands-on experience of ICT and how it is used in real life contexts. The specification builds on the foundations laid by the GCSE ICT specification.
This Course has 6 modules, four of which are entirely coursework based, which aims to develop student skills and experience in Microsoft Office. The remaining two modules are externally examined. Each module is worth 1/6 of the final mark.
